Roger Stern is a lifelong athlete whose path to pickleball was anything but predictable. A graduate of Clark University in 1987, Roger went on to play professional tennis for two years and along the way has competed at a high level across nearly every racket sport. Pickleball, however, was a tougher sell – Roger was a reluctant convert who only picked up a paddle three years ago. It didn’t take long for that reluctance to turn into obsession, and today he brings that same competitive instinct to the Columbus Hotshots.
Roger’s list of competitive pickleball results is too long to list – a testament to how quickly his tennis background translated onto the pickleball court. His proudest achievement is earning a spot on the Hotshots’ 60s Masters team, a milestone that speaks to just how far his game has come in a short time.
Roger is a certified coach through PPR and DUPR. He is most often found on the courts around Beaufort SC and Hilton Head , and is sponsored by Captain George’s Fishing Charters. Originally from New York, he and his wife Beth now live on Fripp Island, South Carolina with their dog, Jeff.
