Jim Bronson

Jim Bronson is a Toledo, Ohio native who has spent a lifetime fueled by competition. Whether it’s racing motocross, competing in radio-controlled car racing, shooting competitions, racquetball, or now pickleball, Jim thrives on challenging himself and performing at a high level.

Before discovering pickleball in October 2022, Jim enjoyed a successful competitive racquetball career, competing at the Open/Pro level in both indoor and outdoor racquetball. His career highlights include reaching the men’s professional singles quarterfinals at the National Championships twice.

When the popularity of racquetball began to decline, Jim turned to pickleball, quickly embracing the sport’s competitive atmosphere. His favorite shot is the ATP (Around the Post), and his rapid success includes winning the 2024 Florida NPL Combine. Now entering his third season with the Columbus Hotshots, Jim values the opportunity to compete alongside like-minded athletes in the National Pickleball League’s unique team environment.

Away from the court, Jim serves as a Project Manager at GEM Inc. He and his wife, Brenda, have been married for 34 years and are proud parents of two children, Ashley and Michael. He also enjoys riding his motorcycle with his wife. Family is at the center of Jim’s life, and he especially enjoys spending time with his three grandchildren – Emmy, Leo, and Owen – with a fourth grandchild, Ellie, expected to join the family at the end of July.

Whether competing on the court or cheering on his growing family, Jim brings the same passion, dedication, and competitive spirit to everything he does.

Adam Rothert

Playing out of Des Moines, Iowa, Adam brings a competitive spirit and a large dose of swagger to the court. He prides himself on being a supportive and positive teammate on court and off. Don’t let his friendly demeanor and near constant smile fool you though as his passion for winning is nearly unmatched. Known alternatively as “Tall Adam”, “Hot Adam”, or “Smiley Horsey”, Adam is known for his friendly demeanor and near constant smile on court, as well as a nearly unmatched passion for winning.

When not playing for the Columbus Hotshots, Adam is the owner and lead pickleball teaching professional at 515 Pickleball Academy, Des Moines premier spot for pickleball instruction. Combining his high level tennis background with years of watching bodies in motion as a personal trainer has made Adam an excellent technical coach. This combination of body mechanics and on court strategy gets applied to students from beginners to players with professional aspirations.

Earlier in his life, Adam was a NCAA Division I tennis player at Portland State University, where he also earned his Master of Business Administration. He and his doubles partner Corey Bennett held the record for most doubles in team history over their time together. (To be fair, the team was trash and the number of wins wasn’t very impressive but a record is a record.) In his previous professional life he was also President of a regional insurance services firm in Portland and has served on several boards of state and national insurance associations.

Adam has a large number of local players in Des Moines that look up to and revere him, including, but not limited to Temu Adam, Slick, LG, and Carrie Mitchell. Adam also has a cat named Bruiser, who loves him as much as a cat can love a human being.

Bailey Saal-Lanning

The co-owner and Head Teaching Pro at Dinks Pickleball in Des Moines, Bailey Saal-Lanning is a major presence in Iowa’s pickleball scene. Whether she’s coaching up players of all ages (excluding her two daughters who refuse to play with her) or indulging her competitive side, she’s very at home on the court.

Her athletic career is long and varied, including picking up tennis in high school and a short stint on her highschool bowling team. She prioritized her love for volleyball and played throughout college at Washburn University. Eventually, on a family cruise, Bailey discovered pickleball. The game suited her long frame and her court vision carried over from her time as an outside hitter. Unfortunately, most of her footwork from volleyball also carried over to the pickleball court with her movement resembling a baby giraffe crossed with a Clydesdale.

While difficult to slip away from her life and kids, Bailey has nonetheless amassed quite a medal haul. Gold medals from PPA Kansas City, PPA Minneapolis, and USA Pickleball National Championships as well as various other medal colors from the US Open Pickleball Championships and a variety of APP events.

Off court Bailey owns and practices at her mental health clinic where she provides therapeutic/counseling and assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults. She also delights in being a mother to her two children, Campbell and Lolo, and supporting their journeys into becoming well rounded human beings.

She thrives on embracing new challenges and believes every sport has helped shape the competitor and teammate she is today.

Lora is a teaching professional at The Dink House in Carmel, Indiana, and also coaches at Cage Campus in Fishers. Whether she’s working with beginners or advanced players, she is passionate about helping others improve their game while building confidence, strong fundamentals, and a genuine love for pickleball. She believes the best teams are built on trust, communication, and lifting one another up, and she brings that mindset to every lesson and every match.

On the competitive side, Lora has earned gold, silver, and bronze medals at the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in both women’s and mixed doubles. Most recently, she added a silver medal in women’s doubles at the CSP 40+ Pro Tournament in St. Petersburg, continuing to challenge herself against some of the sport’s top competitors.

Her experience in education and athletics has strengthened her leadership, communication, and ability to connect with people—qualities that make her a supportive teammate, coach, and competitor. Whether she’s competing, teaching, or cheering on those around her, Lora is committed to helping her team succeed.

When she’s not teaching or playing pickleball, Lora enjoys spending time with family, traveling, relaxing at the beach, and hanging out with her five-year-old dachshund mix, Benny.

Randy Feger

Randy Feger’s pickleball journey began the way many do – completely by accident. During a family vacation to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Randy picked up a paddle for the first time, and what started as a fun activity with his wife and kids quickly revealed a genuine passion for the game. Back home in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, the casual vacation hobby turned into local tournament play, often alongside his family, and over time evolved into competing at progressively higher levels of the sport.

That steady progression has taken Randy from family-friendly recreational play to competitive senior tournaments. Along the way, he’s earned notable results including a gold medal in Men’s Singles 60–64 at the 2024 USA Pickleball National Championship, a gold in Men’s Doubles 55–59 and a silver in Mixed Doubles 60–64 at the 2026 APP Tour Vlasic Classic in Cincinnati. He now brings that experience and competitive drive to the Columbus Hotshots Masters Division in the Champions Series Pickleball league – a natural next step in a journey he never could have predicted starting on a vacation court in South Carolina.

Being selected to compete with the Columbus Hotshots is something Randy doesn’t take lightly. He’s genuinely grateful to the ownership for the opportunity and excited to step on the court alongside such a talented group of teammates.

A proud member of the Cranberry Township Pickleball Association – one of the largest pickleball clubs in the northeastern United States. Randy trains and competes at the CTPA’s Graham Park complex, a world-class facility that has helped shape his game and fuel his love for the sport.

Off the court, Randy brings that same focus and dedication to helping business owners grow. As an Area President with FocusCFO, he partners with entrepreneurs on their journey to build sustainable, transferable value for their businesses – work he finds as rewarding as competition on the court.

Randy Psyk

Randy Psyk was born and raised in rural Minnesota, the middle of five children. He played football, basketball, and baseball in high school, with baseball being his favorite sport. After high school, he continued playing recreational sports while attending college.

Following high school, Randy enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he served as an infantryman for three years while earning his degree. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Design.

While at NDSU, Randy joined the Air Force ROTC program. Upon graduation, he entered active duty as a Second Lieutenant and attended pilot training at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. After completing training, he remained in Lubbock for three years as a T-38 instructor pilot before moving on to several stateside assignments as an F-16 fighter pilot.

In 1994, Randy left active duty and joined the Wisconsin Air National Guard, flying the F-16 in Madison, Wisconsin. He retired from the Air Force in 2002 after completing 20 years of combined active-duty and reserve service.

While serving with the Wisconsin Air National Guard, Randy was also hired by United Air Lines. He retired as a Captain in April after a distinguished 31-year airline career, logging nearly 21,000 flight hours in a variety of aircraft, including the Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777.

Randy married his wife, Mary, in 1988, and together they have celebrated 38 years of marriage. They have three children, Benjamin, Ethan, and Samantha, and are the proud grandparents of Eli, Cam, and Charlotte. Randy and Mary continue to make their home in Madison, Wisconsin, with no plans to leave the area anytime soon.

In addition to his professional flying career, Randy owns a Citabria aerobatic airplane and plans to spend his retirement teaching aerobatics and spin recovery training.

Combining his athletic background, strength, and strategic mindset, he earned a spot with the Columbus Hotshots, where he continues to compete against some of the sport’s top players while representing the team with pride.

Ricky brings the same work ethic, leadership, and competitive spirit to pickleball that defined his career as a professional athlete and Fire Department Captain, making him a valued teammate and an ambassador for healthy, active living.

Roger Stern

Roger Stern is a lifelong athlete whose path to pickleball was anything but predictable. A graduate of Clark University in 1987, Roger went on to play professional tennis for two years and along the way has competed at a high level across nearly every racket sport. Pickleball, however, was a tougher sell – Roger was a reluctant convert who only picked up a paddle three years ago. It didn’t take long for that reluctance to turn into obsession, and today he brings that same competitive instinct to the Columbus Hotshots.
